Honoring the Constitution & the Spirit of India

Every year on 26th January, India celebrates Republic Day, a historic occasion that marks the day our Constitution came into effect in 1950, transforming India into a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic.

At Sunrise University, Alwar, Republic Day holds special significance as we take pride in nurturing responsible, aware, and progressive citizens of the nation. The University community comes together to honor the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity—the foundational principles embedded in India’s Constitution.

Historical Significance of Republic Day

On 26th January 1950, India formally adopted its Constitution, replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of the country. This monumental step:

  • Empowered citizens with fundamental rights
  • Defined the structure of government
  • Ensured democratic governance
  • Strengthened national unity

The date was intentionally chosen to commemorate 26th January 1930, when the Indian National Congress declared Purna Swaraj (Complete Independence) during the freedom struggle.

The Republic Day Parade by Students: A National Pride

The grand parade at Kartavya Path (formerly Rajpath) in New Delhi symbolizes:

  • Cultural diversity
  • Technological advancements
  • National unity

Tableaux from states and ministries, performances by school children, and the display of Indian armed forces showcase the country’s achievements and diversity with pride.
